Rules & objective
This edition follows the OI/University of Chicago museum Game Workbook modern reconstruction; complete ancient rules are not preserved. Thirty houses in 3×10, five light pieces on 1/3/5/7/9 and five dark on 2/4/6/8/10. The path runs 1→10,then 11→20 across the reversed middle row, then 21→30. Alternate opening casts: first to score 1 takes dark, must move the piece 10→11 and cast again; the light player's first move must use the piece originally at 9. Four light faces count 1–4,all dark count 5. Successful forward 1/4/5 earns another cast; backward or no move forfeits it. One piece per house. Land on a lone opponent to swap their positions; same-colour neighbours along consecutive house numbers protect each other, except 27–30. Pieces can be passed; no three-piece blockade is added. Forward is compulsory if possible, otherwise move backward by that score; no move ends the turn. A cast landing on 15 returns to 1. A piece must first land exactly on 26 before passing it. Landing 27 ends the turn; next time handle that piece by returning to 15 without casting and end turn,or cast:4 bears it off with another cast, other scores keep it in Water and end turn. From 28 exact 3 bears off, from 29 exact 2,and from 30 any score. First to pass all five wins.

This is a selected museum reconstruction, not every ancient Egyptian ruleset. Check a special house’s requirements before moving onto it.
